Islamic Divorce Process

1. First meeting (remote) with your client advisor to discuss your case

2. Notice of application sent to respondent

3. Meeting (joint/separate) with the scholar or advisor to reach an agreement

4. Talaq/ Khula pronounced*

5. Talaq/ Khula certificate issued

*Important: In cases where one party chooses not to engage in the divorce process properly, or where an agreement is not forthcoming during the above process, further mediation may be required (charged separately). In some occasions, a case may need to be referred to the marji's office for determination.

Frequently Asked Questions

My husband pronounced the talaq. Are we divorced?

According to Shia fiqh, simply pronouncing the talaq does not constitute a valid divorce.

Is a khula revocable?

No, a khula (an Islamic divorce initiated by the wife and agreed to by the husband) is irrevocable. The couple will need to enter into a new Nikah to get back together.
