In the UK, an Islamic marriage ceremony (sometimes referred to as a nikkah, katb kitab or aqid) that is performed in the UK is not on its own recognised as a legally valid marriage. This has serious legal implications. Couples may want to consider entering into a civil marriage as well. The laws in other countries may differ.
